Great Codford Pumpkin Competition Draws a Crowd - Rupert Mayhew

The annual Great Codford Pumpkin Competition weigh-in took place on 25th October at Broadleaze Bar and attracted a good turnout from villagers eager to see this year's growing successes.

A total of 14 pumpkins and two marrows were entered into the competition, with growers proudly displaying the results of months of care and attention.

This year's competition was won by a magnificent 71lb pumpkin, pictured in the wheelbarrow, comfortably surpassing last year's winning weight of 44lb. While it didn't quite challenge the competition record of 90lb, it was still an outstanding achievement and a worthy winner.

Many thanks to everyone who took part, attended, and supported the event. Looking ahead, seeds from the winning pumpkin will be used to grow seedlings next spring. Details of when these will be available for collection will be shared in due course, giving aspiring growers the chance to start preparing for next year's competition.

Congratulations to all the entrants, and we look forward to seeing even bigger pumpkins in 2027!
