Compass Collaboration Schools - Andy Pragnell - Wylye Valley primary school.

The Compass Collaboration Group of six local primary schools has recently worked together on two projects – ‘The Journey’ and ‘Share the Miracle.’

First, the schools all worked on a project based on the concept of ‘The Journey.’  We all take journeys. For some, the first thought of a journey will be of travel and adventure to new places. Others may think of our journey through school, career or the journey of life. We may also think of journeys in the natural world such as migration or the journey of mankind through the ages.

The results of this theme culminated in ideas through the written word, art and other mediums showcasing the talent of our young learners. The children were excited to be able to share some of the work they have been doing across the school curriculum. Staff and pupils worked hard to curate an exhibition at the Athenaeum in the Warminster which celebrated both the diversity and similarities of our schools. It was fantastic for these to be viewed by families of the pupils as well as being open to the general public.

Next, pupils from the schools delivered Easter eggs to their communities as part of the ‘Share the Miracle’ initiative. The project looks to surprise and bring joy to the local community, by simply sharing Easter eggs. Each school asked for donations from their school families and once these were collected, they set out on delivering them throughout their local community.

Wylye Valley School, Codford, delivered their eggs to a variety of places including the Children’s Ward at Salisbury District Hospital, Codford GP surgery, Warminster library and charity shops in Warminster. Horningsham School donated their eggs to Henford House Nursing home. Sutton Veny School split their donated eggs between Sutton Veny Nursing Home, the Chat Café and the Recycling Centre in Warminster. Crockerton School delivered their eggs to The Learning Meadow Outdoor Nursery, Longbridge Deverill Nursing Home and Warminster Community Hospital. The latter were particularly grateful for the delivery as they were having a fraught day with IT issues! The recipients of Minster School’s chocolate eggs were the MS therapy Centre and Wren House. Finally, Sambourne School took their chocolate goodies to Warminster Police Station.

Rob Barnes, Wylye Valley School Head teacher said, ‘Share the Miracle is a fantastic initiative and I am so proud of the ambassadors from all the schools who have driven this forward. It was wonderful to see the joy on the faces of the recipients. I am also grateful for the generosity of the wider school communities of all six schools.’

The Compass Collaboration is a group of six local authority primary schools working together to enhance the opportunities we offer the learners of Warminster and surrounding villages. The collaboration comprises of Wylye Valley CE Primary, Sambourne CE Primary, Minster CE Primary, Horningsham Primary, Crockerton CE Primary and Sutton Veny CE Primary schools. They support and challenge each other to ensure that the highest educational standards are maintained while enabling each school to retain their unique identities and meet the needs of their local communities.

The schools are busy preparing for their next event that will enable the wider Warminster community to experience the learning journey of the young people of our town and villages. Watch this space!
