Men’s Fellowship breakfasts - Richard Jackman

At the first breakfast of this season, Mike Allen of Codford described in a most enlightening and amusing way how his archaeological investigations put paid to years of theorising over the age of the Cerne Abbas Giant by scientifically proving that it dated from the Saxon period.

His research also revealed that the giant was likely to be a depiction of a well-known hermit who was carved onto the down to act as a signpost to the very extensive abbey being built at Cerne.

His talk inevitably made reference to the giant’s impressive manhood (revealing that it was primarily a symbol of authority and that over the years it had grown by over six feet as a result of it extending to incorporate his navel!) and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

The breakfasters responded with generous donations to Mike’s chosen charities: Pancreatic Cancer UK and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
