Codford Village ANZAC day service of Commemoration - Sarah Dorrington
Codford came together in remarkable numbers on Saturday 25th April for the annual ANZAC Day Service of Commemoration, held at 6.30am in the peaceful setting of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery. Over 80 people gathered at dawn to honour the Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women who served and sacrificed during times of conflict.
The service opened with the stirring sound of the bagpipes, setting a reflective tone for what proved to be a deeply moving ceremony. A beautifully played Last Post by the bugler brought a moment of profound stillness, allowing all present to pause and remember. The bagpiper then closed the service with a final, poignant tribute.
Following the ceremony, the community made its way to Codford Village Hall, where a delicious breakfast awaited. Once again, more than 80 attendees shared food, conversation, and companionship — a fitting continuation of a morning centred on remembrance and togetherness.
Codford is proud to uphold this important tradition, and grateful to everyone who attended, participated, and helped make the event so meaningful.
